Verbal

This category can include comments, jokes, or suggestions of a sexual nature that are unwanted and make the target feel uncomfortable, intimidated, or offended. Verbal harassment can also include sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, or threats based on sexual orientation or gender.

Non-verbal

This category can include any unwanted behavior that communicates a sexual message without the use of words. This can include gestures, facial expressions, or physical behavior that is meant to be sexually suggestive or intimidating. For example, staring at someone in a sexually suggestive way, making inappropriate gestures or facial expressions, or exposing oneself in public.

Psychological

This category can include any unwanted behavior that causes psychological harm or distress to the target. This can include things like gaslighting, stalking, or spreading rumors about someone's sexual behavior. Psychological harassment can also involve threats, intimidation, or coercion meant to control or manipulate the target.

Support services

Forms of support

Support groups

These are a form of peer support that can be especially helpful for victims of sexual harassment. These groups can provide a safe space for victims to share their experiences, connect with others who have had similar experiences, and receive emotional support. Support groups are led by mental health professionals, community organizations, or even other victims of sexual harassment.

Legal assistance

Legal assistance is an important resource for victims of sexual harassment who want to pursue legal action against their harasser. This will involve connecting victims with lawyers who specialize in sexual harassment cases, providing legal advice and representation, and helping victims navigate the legal system. Legal assistance will also involve advocacy efforts to change laws and policies to better protect victims of sexual harassment.

Therapy

Therapy or counseling is a powerful tool for overcoming the trauma of sexual harassment. A trained mental health professional can help victims process their experiences, develop coping strategies, and work through any lingering emotional or psychological effects of the harassment. Therapy or counseling takes many forms, including individual therapy, group therapy, or online therapy.
